Hunter opens new salon in Sebastopol

Emily Ann Monk Hunter, Owner/Stylist, opened the door and welcomed everyone in during the Grand Opening of Be-YOU-tiful Salon in Sebastopol recently.

Hunter is the daughter of Arthur and Lisa Sistrunk Monk, the granddaughter of Thomas and Mecia McKee, and the late Buddy Monk, and Mike and Peggy Graham, all of Sebastopol.

After graduating from Sebastopol Attendance Center in 2015, Hunter attended East Central Community College in Cosmetology. She obtained her certificate by logging 1,500 clock hours of training, while maintaining above average grades in theory and skill course work. Then came the State Board Examination, which she passed to receive her license. After that the State Board of Health came calling to inspect, approve and permit Be-YOU-tiful Salon to open.

“It has always been my dream to own my own beauty shop,” Hunter said. When my mom would go to Sharon in Union, I would tell them, “I want my own shop.”

Emily had job offers, even before she graduated from ECCC, at Stephanie’s Hair Salon in Union. “That helped me tremendously,” she said.

Kelsey Dennis McDonald, Stylist, also from Sebastopol, has joined Emily at the freshly renovated, rejuvenating beauty boutique.

Be-YOU-tiful Salon, blends function with fashion and brings flattering, versatile glamour, compliments of small town charm.

Emily said, “I’ve always liked the saying ‘Be your own kind of beautiful.’ Over the years I’ve developed an interest in hair/makeup/dress up and putting it all together helped make me feel like myself. When my husband and I talked about opening a salon I knew it had to be the name of the salon because clients will feel like themselves with the hospitality and also by the outcome of the services.”
