This years Distinguished Young Woman (DYW) program will be February 24,  at 6:30 p.m. in the Forest Elementary School Auditorium. The Doors will open at 6:00.

Three concrete light poles were installed at Gaddis Park last week to replace the existing wood poles. “We consider this part of our yearly upgrades,” Parks Director Stan Crotwell said.

The Forest-Scott County Career & Technology Center recently held an  induction ceremony for the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS).

Once upon a time many years ago animals unimaginable  roamed this earth leaving behind links into history with their bones buried beneath the surface, today known as fossils.

Lifelong residents of this area will remember a man of God by the name of Rev. John Hayes Jones. Rev. Jones was probably famous for a lot of things, but in my mind two stand out — catfish and letters to Jesus.


Jail escapee captured

State inmate Gregory Trigg, who escaped from the Scott County Jail last weekend, has been captured and is back in prison.

Trigg, #R4245, was found in a motel in Hazlehurst and arrested without incident by local authorities. He was caught at 11:30 p.m. Monday at the motel. His identity was confirmed later.

Crystal K. Watford, 34, 51 Young Hill Dr, Monticello, improper equipment, drug possession- methamphetamine, no driver’s license.




Back on the soap box(s) again

It happened again Monday just after 7:00 a.m. while on my way to work. The traffic signal facing me at the intersection of Hillsboro Street and Hwy. 80 in Forest turned green. I was on Hillsboro so that means the light had to be red on the side the folks traveling on Highway 80 were on. Everyone knows that, right?
