FINAL REPORT OF THE  GRAND JURY
JULY 2017 SESSION
TO: THE HONORABLE CIRCUIT COURT OF SCOTT  COUNTY MISSISSIPPI

Having been duly sworn, empaneled and charged on December 2, 2016, and having  reconvened on August 1,  2017, we commenced our deliberations and having now  been in continuous session for  a period of 1 day, we submit  this as our final report.
all matters having come to our  attention have been investigated, and in so doing we have  considered 38 cases, examined 67 witnesses, returned  into the court 36 True Bills of  Indictment, 0 no-bills, 1 case  having been remanded to Justice Court or Municipal court  for further proceedings and 1  case having been continued  for further investigation.
The Justice Court Judges and  Justice Court Clerk have testified before us and from the  records of the Justice Court,  we find that since the last  Grand Jury Session they have  returned into the County Depository the sum of  $298,741.71 with the representing monies collected as  fines and assessments.
We have also heard testimony  from the following public officials of the County; the Sheriff,  the Tax Collector, the Superintendent of Education, the  President of the Foresty Commission, and the President of  the Board of Supervisors, and  we have made inquiry into  their respective duties and obligations and we find that said  officials are performing their  duties in a proper manner and  according to Law.
We have investigated the  management and administration of sixteenth section land  and find it is satisfactorily administered under the law.
We have examined into the  matter of forest fire protection  and have found that there has  not been an abnormal outbreak of forest fires in Scott  County, and believe that the  fire protection measures of  Scott County are adequate,  and that our County Forester  is very capable and qualified.
We have received the written  report of our Chancery Clerk,  Ms. Lee Anne Palmer, and find  it to be thorough and according to Law.
We highly commend Judge  Vernon Cotten for an excellent  charge to this Grand Jury. We  express to him and to our Circuit Clerk, Ms. Becky Gray,  our appreciation for the efficient operation of Court.
We express our commendation to Sheriff Mike Lee and  the other law enforcement officers of our County for the  manner in which they have  performed their duties.
We also sincerely thank our  bailiffs for their assistance to  us during out deliberations.
this, the 1st day of August,  2017.
