There is no charge for announcements to run in Community Calendar for two consecutive weeks. If you would like your event publicized more than the two complimentary times, the cost is $20 per week.

Eugene Odom

Victor Eugene Odom, age 63 a resident of  the Pea Ridge community near Forest, died Monday January 8, 2018 surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness.


Accidents on rain slickened highways cause delays on Interstate 20, Hwy. 35

Two unrelated accidents on rain slickened highways within the city of Forest caused major traffic delays just after noon on Monday.

The first accident, pictured above, on Interstate 20 at the 89 mile maker near the Forest exit blocked both lanes of eastbound traffic after an 18 wheeler carrying flipped across the highway.

Announcements:  Central MS Regional Library Systems local (Scott County) libraries will resume regular library hours on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. following holiday closures on Monday, December 25 and Tuesday, December 26,  and will be closed on New Years Day, Monday, January 1, 2018 with hours resuming on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

MaeDean Goolsby, age 54 a resident of Forest died Sunday January 7, 2018 at the Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest following an extended illness.

Mrs. Agnes T. Miley

Mrs. Mary Agnes Thomas Miley, age 93, a resident of Pulaski passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.  Visitation was held from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.  Services were held at 2 p.m.

Getting ready for New Year’s Day

It’s almost here! Happy New Year! We have been told to be sure not to eat rich foods on this holiday as it will bring us “bad luck”. We are supposed to eat Black Eyed Peas, cabbage, collards, hog jowl and old fashioned cornbread. (Jiffy mix bread will do no good)


Pelahatchie man charged with Christmas Day murder of father in Scott County


A 19-year-old man is in custody after the alleged murder of his father.

Sheriff Mike Lee said last week that early Christmas morning the sheriff’s department responded to a call at 1634 Riverbend Rd in Scott County, the residence of Wayne Adcocks. Adcocks, 57, was shot once in the head.
