Once upon a time many years ago animals unimaginable  roamed this earth leaving behind links into history with their bones buried beneath the surface, today known as fossils.

According to Webster, fossils are the remains or impressions of a prehistoric organism preserved in petrified form or as a mold or cast in rock.

Sammie Louise Nunley Rigsby

Mrs. Sammie Louise Nunley Rigsby, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior in Heaven on February 1, 2018.  She was born on October 7, 1926 in Forest, Mississippi to Staton Baker and Mamie Moore Nunley. She was the youngest of fourteen children, all of whom preceded her in death. She was married to the late E.J. Rigsby.

Deadline nears for registration

The City of Forest Parks and Recreation and Youth Sports League is accepting registrations for this year’s baseball and t-ball program for girls and boys at Gaddis Park.

The deadline to register is Friday, February 9th. Registration forms are available at the park office. The cost to participate is $75.

More than 85 people braved the inclement weather on Sunday for the Surround the Library with Love event at the Forest Public Library.  The afternoon appreciation tea was hosted by the Friends of the Library and featured a slide show of the library’s programs for the past year, along with special recognition of the library’s partners and patrons



Hornets defeat Richland, 35-20, look ahead to Union this Friday night

The Lake Hornets overcame the Richland Rangers last Friday night, 35-20. The Hornets now boast a record of five wins and one loss this season.
Coach Tate Hanna said, “I was very pleased with how we played this past Friday. We did a great job up front on both sides of the ball. This is the first game we played well the entire game.”

Second Annual Toy Drive underway

The Scott County Sheriff’s Department began accepting donations Monday in their second annualy Sheriff’s Toy Drive. There is a drop off box at the Scott County Sheriff’s Department in the lobby which is open to the public 24 hours a day. There will be a small drop box at Petals & More in Forest.
