Cindy Craig Harrell

Cindy Craig Harrell, age 52 a resident of Clifton, MS, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Lackey Hospital in Forest, MS.  Visitation was held from  5-9 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2017 from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest and from 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.


Ruth F. Marty

Ruth F. Marty, 102, went home to be with her Lord at Lackey Convalescent Home in Forest, MS, on Sunday, December 3, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Edmund John Marty. She was born to the late Fred and Beulah Fussner, of Mentor, Ohio on September 13, 1915 in Willoughby, Ohio.


Marie Babb

Winona Marie Aycock Babb, 89, a resident of Pearl, MS passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017 at MS Care Center of Morton. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with the interment in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS. Visitation was Monday from 5:00 p.m.

Second Annual Toy Drive underway

The Scott County Sheriff’s Department began accepting donations Monday in their second annualy Sheriff’s Toy Drive. There is a drop off box at the Scott County Sheriff’s Department in the lobby which is open to the public 24 hours a day. There will be a small drop box at Petals & More in Forest.

Bearcats show out in 37-8 win over Kemper County

In their away game, the Forest Bearcats showed off their offensive and defensive chops against the Kemper County Wildcats last Friday night in a decisive 37-8 win. This most recent victory came at a crucial time for the Bearcats, which landed them a spot in the playoffs of the 2017 MHSAA Football Championships of the 3A division.



Jail escapee captured

State inmate Gregory Trigg, who escaped from the Scott County Jail last weekend, has been captured and is back in prison.

Trigg, #R4245, was found in a motel in Hazlehurst and arrested without incident by local authorities. He was caught at 11:30 p.m. Monday at the motel. His identity was confirmed later.

Crystal K. Watford, 34, 51 Young Hill Dr, Monticello, improper equipment, drug possession- methamphetamine, no driver’s license.


Back on the soap box(s) again

It happened again Monday just after 7:00 a.m. while on my way to work. The traffic signal facing me at the intersection of Hillsboro Street and Hwy. 80 in Forest turned green. I was on Hillsboro so that means the light had to be red on the side the folks traveling on Highway 80 were on. Everyone knows that, right?
