When a person is in their 80s, wouldn’t you say it is safe to assume that every birthday is a milestone? My dad, Harmon Drexil “Joe” Beeland, hits his 85th milestone this coming Sunday. 





MaeDean Goolsby

MaeDean Goolsby, age 54 a resident of Forest died Sunday January 7, 2018 at the Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest following an extended illness.


Mrs. Agnes T. Miley

Mrs. Mary Agnes Thomas Miley, age 93, a resident of Pulaski passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.  Visitation was held from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.  Services were held at 2 p.m.



County schools’ energy savings renovations are 87 percent complete

Scott County School District started making renovations to improve building energy efficency during the first week of June last year. After seven months of renovations included in the $4.17 million energy savings performance contract (ESPC), Johnson  Control has completed 87 percent of the projects.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Doris Delcomyn were conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 from the Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Holmes officiating. Interment followed in the Liberty Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.




Frank William Colbert III

Funeral services for Mr. Frank William Colbert, III were conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, December 29, 2017 from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Reggie Williams and Rev. Randall Creel officiating. Interment followed in the Eastern Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.


Ricky Myers

Mr. Ricky Myers, age 38, passed away on January 5, 2018.

Ricky was born in Tupelo, MS to Johnny Myers and Eva Myers.

He is survived by parents, Johnny and Eva Myers; brothers, Scott Myers and Jon Myers; sister, Jennifer Myers; grandmother, Sara Gatewood; nephews, Kevin Baumgardner, Joseph Myers and Stephen Myers.




Dorothy McDill

Services for Ms. Dorothy McDill were held at 11:00 am, Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Bro. Randall Creel officiated. Visitation was held from 9:30 am until 11 am, Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church.

ECCC Warrior Football lands three players on All-State, All-Region Teams

East Central Community College freshman defensive back Keonte’ Daniels has been named to both the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges First Team All-State South Offense and the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 First Team Offense for his play during the recently completed 2017 season.





Forestry Banquet Oct. 26

The Scott County Forestry Association Banquet will be held Thursday, October 26 at Roosevelt State Park Lodge.  Registration will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the meal and program beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Please call the Scott County Extension Office at 601-469-4241 by October 16 to register for the banquet.




Bearcats show out in 37-8 win over Kemper County

In their away game, the Forest Bearcats showed off their offensive and defensive chops against the Kemper County Wildcats last Friday night in a decisive 37-8 win. This most recent victory came at a crucial time for the Bearcats, which landed them a spot in the playoffs of the 2017 MHSAA Football Championships of the 3A division.
