Gardening Season Has Arrived


Spring arrived Tuesday and the Forest Garden Club is tilling up the grounds for another great gardening season.

The Forest Garden Club was established in 1962 and is a member of National Garden Clubs, Deep South Garden Clubs, and The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, and is in the Southern Pine District.

The following persons were entered into the docket at the Scott County Detention Center March 7 -  March 14. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Saturday afternoon while cruising the back roads of Rankin, Scott and Leake County, up around Ludlow I think it was, I spied a couple of fishermen on the bank of a creek and  wished I was shoulder to shoulder with them.

Frances “Fran” Rester

Frances “Fran” Helen Rester, 84, of Brandon, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at her home. A Celebration of Life for Mama Fran was Friday, March 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Crossgates UMC with Rev. Chris Cumbest and Rev. John Moore officiating. Entombment followed at Lakewood Memorial Gardens.

Announcements:  We Care Missions Food Distribution dates for March are Friday, March 9 and Friday, March 16 from 10:00 a.m.-12 noon at Fellowship Hall of Morton United Methodist Church, 29 Church Street.  Those eligible for the program must have all required documentation with them.

In the second grade Allen Cooks like all artists had a vivid imagination. His young mind could grasp the image and store it.

Volunteers handle the bulk of the work at Crudup Ward Food Pantry


The Crudup Ward Food Pantry located in the Crudup Ward building on Longview Street, just off Hill Street in Forest has been providing for those in need with low income since 2005.

“So many people without income and those who have a job but are paid with a low salary are helped through this wonderful program,” Mammie Crudup said.


Back on the soap box(s) again


It happened again Monday just after 7:00 a.m. while on my way to work. The traffic signal facing me at the intersection of Hillsboro Street and Hwy. 80 in Forest turned green. I was on Hillsboro so that means the light had to be red on the side the folks traveling on Highway 80 were on. Everyone knows that, right?

Second Annual Toy Drive underway

The Scott County Sheriff’s Department began accepting donations Monday in their second annualy Sheriff’s Toy Drive. There is a drop off box at the Scott County Sheriff’s Department in the lobby which is open to the public 24 hours a day. There will be a small drop box at Petals & More in Forest.
