The MessageBy PASTOR BILL MYERS,
How long has it been since you talked with God? FYI: He’s listening…..
“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” (Psalm 145: 18)
This scripture tells us to call on Him in truth. What is truth? Jesus is truth!
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
Jesus is the way to God! Through Him, we have access to our Heavenly Father. So praying in the name of Jesus is the key!
Many will pray to God but don’t really expect answers or guidance. They feel it’s just the Christian thing to do. I believe I’d get my feelings hurt if my family only talked to me out of obligation or because it’s the “right thing” to do. When we pray out of habit or obligation, we’re missing out on a beautiful relationship that God so desires with us! Friends, God is personable and His Word tells us that He is with us wherever we go.
“The Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
When we feel abandoned or that God is nowhere to be found, we should go back and revisit this scripture to be reassured that no matter how we feel, He is with us and hasn’t forsaken us! I love the old gospel song, “He Was There All the Time.”
Yes, we must be careful who is whispering in our ears telling us we are alone and that no one cares. It isn’t God! He (Abba Father) is an encourager who is with us; cares about us, and will never leave us! Jesus is the perfect example of God’s personality, which is loving, caring, kind, patient, forgiving, and merciful, etc.
Our Heavenly Father truly desires to have a relationship with us, which includes a two-way conversation. Some people desire to write down their feelings, which is okay. I personally enjoy telling God how I feel. I think about another old hymn, “And He walks with me and He talks with me……” (In the Garden).
Today, I encourage you to begin your conversation with God. Remember, conversation is a two-way process. We mustn’t do all the talking, but learn to listen to His wonderful guidance. Many are confused over decisions that need to be made. Your Heavenly Father will speak and give you wisdom. As you meditate on His Word, listen to Him speak to your heart. Did you get that? Many times as you read His Word, He will speak through the scriptures! Remember, the Bible is God’s Word. He has the best advice! Let’s choose to get in the habit of not just talking through the entire prayer, but also listen!
God, your Father, loves and cares for you, and He’s listening!
