Several readers have commented on their enjoyment of last week’s fantastic Wing Dang Doodle. Thanks to all of those who worked so hard to make this festival such a success.
Our thoughts are with longtime Forest resident Roseann Lynn and her family with the passing Friday of her husband John in Asheville, North Carolina. Many of you heard that John had a fall the prior Friday evening and fractured his pelvic bone. He was a patient in the VA hospital until Tuesday, when he was transferred to the Community Life Center in Palliative Care/Hospice Care.  Please keep this special family in your prayers.  A memorial service will be held at a later date. Plans were still incomplete when this information was submitted to the paper.
Congratulations to Chris Baker, who survived the Wing Dang Dash 5k walk and won first place in his age group! Time of 46:35.  In 2010 he won 3rd place, and I n 2011 he won 2nd, and now he celebrated his birthday weekend by coming in first!
Gene and Dianne Walker enjoyed last week with the Birmingham grandchildren in Forest. Grace and Thomas Cofer were visiting from Homewood, Alabama, while their mom recuperated at home. Hope you are feeling better, Cristy!
Long time Forest residents will be saddened to learn of the death of Dianne Melton Rainer, who passed away in Destin, Florida, last Wednesday morning, following a long illness.  Services were conducted in Selma, Alabama, on Saturday by lifelong friend, Dr. Jerry Henry of Fairhope. Dianne’s husband, Sterling Price Rainer,  was the first cousin of the late Maybeth Ormond. Generations of his family have called Forest home.
Joining Dink and Edna Gibson on their recent trip to Orange Beach, Alabama, was Georgie McMullan of Hattiesburg. The trio enjoyed  their stay with John and Manina Lee Bauer in their lovely beach condo.
Mary and Ronny Jones attended Cruisin’ on the Coast...said to be the biggest event on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Picture thousands of vintage and other cars driving up and down Beach Blvd (U.S. 90) from Pascagoula to Bay St. Louis.  The event started Sunday and went through Saturday.  Most spectacular events were at night, and the cars were everywhere.  People line the boulevard in lawn chairs, RVs, and whatever.  It’s a happening! Cars came from everywhere. Over 8000 were registered, with a lot more that weren’t!  Needless to say, Ronny and Mary had a great time!
Last Wednesday, former Forest resident, Joe “Mitch” Mitchell departed for his mountain climbing trip to Peru, while Jennifer Mitchell and their daughter, Perry, left for a weekend visit with her dad in Panama City, Florida.  Rhett Mitchell closed up their coast home and chose to head north to Forest, heeding the hurricane warnings.
Congratulations to 2017 Mississippi State University Homecoming Queen, Valencia Tori Vivians!!!  Scott County is proud of you!
