Announcements: Morton Friends of the Library will meet at Morton Public Library on Thursday, May 17th at 12 noon.  Refreshments will be served.

The 2018 Summer Camp for Kindergarten to 5th Grade children will be held at Excel Learning Center, 383 South Fourth Street, Morton in June.  Classes are scheduled from Monday through Thursday, 8:30-11:30 a.m. during the weeks of June 4-7, 11-14 and 18-21.  The cost per child per week is $25.  Registration is necessary.  To acquire more information concerning the activities offered or to register, call 601-732-1800 or go by the office at the above address. 

Final registration date for Calligraphy Classes at Excel, with instructor Diane Herring is Thursday May 17.  The fee is $25 for three classes on Tuesday evenings-May 22, 29 and June 5 from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Congratulations to:  Dr. Howard Clark on his retirement following decades of dedicated service to the medical, church and community needs of Morton and miles of surrounding area towns and villages. He was honored with a reception held at the Scott Regional Hospital Cafeteria. Scores of family members, local and state dignitaries and friends attended. The Mel Roland family wishes to express our own words of appreciation, love and respect to this dear friend. May God's richest blessings be with you, Dr. Clark.

To:  Timothy Johnson on being nominated by his instructors at the Forest-Scott County Career and Technology Center as the Outstanding Student in the Fourth Nine Weeks of classes in Health Sciences Core.

To:  Those MHS and ERA (Morton residents) seniors recognized for academic excellence honors at the Annual Honors Dinner sponsored by the Morton City Chamber of Commerce and local business, civic and individual donations. To: Howard and Jewel Herring on the celebration of their 71st Wedding Anniversary surrounded in their home by scores of family members (Children, Grands, G’grands and G-G’grands) and their families. To these dear friends words of love, admiration and prayers for many “Happy Returns of the Day”.

To: Jewel Herring on being the recipient of a beautiful plaque, given by the Mississippi United Methodist Conference, designation the United Methodist Women (UMW) of Morton United Methodist Church as the Jewel Jones Herring MUW.  Her dedication and love of this missions group goes above and beyond that of most members.

Prayers and concern for:  Bradley Wolverton, Eileen Stephens, Sarah Strohm and continued concern for Patsy Lewis Stuart, Arcola watkins and Iola Johnson.

Sympathy to the families of:  Henry O’Cain, Donna (Mrs. Charles) O’Cain and Christopher Allen Clark.

Travelin’, visitin’ and such: Katie Measells reports that her daughter Melody Pickett and spouse John of Clarksville, Arkansas were recent visitors with her and also with Melody’s sister Becky Moss and family.

Ray and Suzy Meador, Chester and Shirley Sawyer enjoyed an outing to the gulf Coast recently to honor Suzy with a birthday celebratory trip.

Mel, Frisky and Brian Roland met their children/brother Hal Roland and spouse Bobbie of Harvey Louisiana at the Keg and Barrell restaurant in Hattiesburg for celebration of Hal’s birthday.
