Mayor Chambers honored by local sorority

In October Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Omicron Beta Omega Chapter of Meridian celebrated United Nations Day by highlighting the job of Mayor Nancy Chambers of Forest and the important role she has played in the city’s progress. Mayor Chambers is a pioneer in that she is the first female Mayor of the city. Serving in her fifth term, Mayor Chambers sees her job of Mayor as a service opportunity in working for the betterment of the city and the betterment of the lives of all people living in Forest. She enjoys working with people and bringing diverse people together to improve the standard of living for everyone.
As the first female Mayor of Forest, Mayor Chambers’ job has come with challenges such as working with men to get the job done and in recognizing that legally she cannot do all the things that people need because of the law system for municipal officials. In most cases, Mayor Chambers finds that communication is the key to solving most problems.
Mayor Chambers states that the job of Mayor is never done and she want everyone in the city to stop by because she has an “Open Door Policy” at Forest City Hall. She is always ready to listen and try to help. She believes that working together with an appreciation of the worth of every individual is the first step in advancing the awareness of justice and equality for all.
