Mrs. Maurine Holsen, age 82, and resident of Hickory passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at her home.

Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel with her pastor, Rev. Gary Howse officiating under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.

Estelle Boxx

On July 25, 2018, Estelle Irby Boxx passed away after nearly 94 years of life.

Estelle was born on September 27, 1924 in Scott County to Amos and Letha Irby. She was the oldest of six siblings. She married the love of her life, Pete Boxx on November 30, 1945, and had two daughters, Dixie and Joyce.

This is the last full week of the summer break as Scott County District School teachers will report to work next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for professional development. All time seems to fly by, but it seems that no time passes faster than summer break.

Jail escapee captured

State inmate Gregory Trigg, who escaped from the Scott County Jail last weekend, has been captured and is back in prison.

Trigg, #R4245, was found in a motel in Hazlehurst and arrested without incident by local authorities. He was caught at 11:30 p.m. Monday at the motel. His identity was confirmed later.

Second Annual Toy Drive underway

The Scott County Sheriff’s Department began accepting donations Monday in their second annualy Sheriff’s Toy Drive. There is a drop off box at the Scott County Sheriff’s Department in the lobby which is open to the public 24 hours a day. There will be a small drop box at Petals & More in Forest.
