District Champs

The  Morton Lady Panthers Softball won District Champs 8-0. The Lady Panthers beat Yazoo County April 17 to clinch title. The Lady Panthers faced Columbia High School in the first round of the playoffs. Game 1 was Tuesday at Columbia but results were not available at press time.

State Finalist

Kelly Atkison, senior at Forest High School, was recently recognized as a 2017 Mississippi State Finalist for the Wendy's High School Heisman. Kelly was selected from all the high school nominees as a state finalist. Only 20 total students were recognized at the ceremony for the State of Mississippi.

Morton pitcher, Mallory Irby, winds up during the Lady Panther’s 13-2 home victory over the Lady Bearcats of Forest last Friday. The Lady Panthers defeated Scott Central 17-7 on Monday. The Lady Bearcats took on Scott Central Tuesday night at home, but the game had not been played at press time.      

Panthers claim victory over Enterprise, Choctaw Central


Morton High School claimed victory twice last week at home on the diamond. The Panthers defeated Choctaw Central 7-1 Tuesday before winning 6-4 against Enterprise on Saturday.

The Panters were scheduled to take on in-county rival Forest Bobcats Tuesday night. The results from that game were not available at press time.

Signs with Pearl River

Tommy Joe Wash (TJ) signed his national letter of intent to continue his football career at Pearl River Community College recently.  TJ is a future graduate of Scott Central Attendance Center where he has received the captain award, MVP, All-District as well as All-State recognition.  Pictured with TJ are his mom, Luanda Wash, his grandfather,
